That’s all that kept Torri Huske from her first Olympic medal in this year’s Tokyo games.
The Arlington, Virginia, swimmer just missed out on earning a bronze medal when she clocked a 55.73 in the 100-meter women’s butterfly final Monday morning. Australia’s Emma McKeon finished third with a time of 55.72.
Canada’s Maggie MacNeil took gold with a 55.59 — giving her country its first top position in this year’s Olympic Games.
Huske, 18, earned her spot in the Olympics by breaking the American record in the 100 meter butterfly at the U.S. Olympic Trials. But in Japan, Huske’s time was slightly slower than the 55.66 she raced last month.
It appeared Huske was on her way to claiming gold when she gained a slight lead in the race, which occurred Sunday evening in the U.S.
However, Huske was passed at the very end, with MacNeil, China’s Zhang Yufei (silver) and McKeon earning the spots on the podium.
