LANDOVER — Washington defensive end Chase Young went down in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was ruled out with a knee injury.

Young suffered the injury with 7:43 left before halftime.

The 22-year-old went to the ground in pain on what appeared to be a non-contact knee injury. A replay showed Young rushing right tackle Tristan Wirfs when the defensive end appeared to trip to the ground.

Washington initially brought the cart out for Young, but the Ohio State product refused to be carted off. He instead was helped back the locker room by two trainers.

Young’s injury comes after a week in which the 2020 first-rounder faced criticism for his slow start to the season. Young has 1 1/2 sacks this year through eight games.

The injury is also a blow to the team’s defensive line depth as starter Montez Sweat is also out with a broken jaw.
