Springfield Metropolis Corridor evacuated after bomb risk

Town corridor of Springfield, Ohio, was evacuated Thursday after a bomb risk that comes as town has develop into a nationwide focus over racist conspiracy theories about immigrants consuming pets.

“Due to a bomb threat that was issued to multiple facilities throughout Springfield today, City Hall is closed today,” town authorities stated in a submit on Fb. “City of Springfield received a bomb threat that has prompted an immediate response from local and regional law enforcement. As a precautionary measure, the building has been evacuated, and authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation.”

The bomb risk follows the current prominence of false claims about Haitian immigrants consuming pets within the Ohio metropolis, allegations which have been elevated by former President Trump and his 2024 working mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.

“What they have done to our country by allowing these millions and millions of people to come into our country — and look at what’s happening to the towns [in the] United States, a lot of towns don’t want to talk,” Trump stated at Tuesday’s presidential debate. “Not going to be Aurora [or] Springfield. A lot of towns don’t want to talk about it because they’re so embarrassed by it. In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs.”

Metropolis officers have denied any stories such pet-consuming incidents.

In response to the Thursday Fb submit from the Ohio metropolis’s authorities, Springfield “officials were alerted to this threat” by the use of “an email message this morning at 8:24 am.” The submit stated “multiple agencies and media outlets” had been amongst those that the e-mail was directed to.
