Nobody is aware of how a lot water sits beneath the desert of Terlingua. Residents fear their wells will run dry, as builders and native officers cheer the tourism growth. From the story:
A plume of mud trailed the pickup truck that drove via a maze of caliche roads. The motive force and passenger had been acquainted with the route. Rick and Georganne Bradbury, husband and spouse, have navigated it twice a month for 4 years to ship tons of of gallons of water to one in all their favourite clients, an artwork gallery supervisor with three youngsters.
Espresso in hand, that buyer, Shannon Montague, approached the water haulers from the doorway of her single-wide trailer house to greet them.
Rick pulled out a 40-foot hose, hooking one finish to a gasoline-powered pump whereas Georganne dangled the opposite, a custom-made spout, inside Montague’s water tank. The engine sputtered to life, gushing water till it replenished the 750-gallon tank.
“What would we do without you?” Montague mentioned.
