Asano Kiichi (1914–1993), born in Kameoka, Kyoto Prefecture, moved to Kyoto Metropolis as a toddler, the place he was deeply influenced by town’s arts and traditions.
His ardour for pictures started in highschool, main him to seize Kyoto’s previous methods as they had been disappearing within the metropolis’s transition to modernity. Within the Fifties, he documented the lifetime of Kyoto’s geisha and Japan’s snow nation, aiming to protect photographs of fading rural traditions. His profession introduced quite a few awards and membership within the Japan Skilled Photographer’s Society, and he revealed notable works like *Snow Nation* and *Invitation to Japanese Gardens*. Right this moment, his images are a part of collections in outstanding museums, together with the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Pictures and the San Francisco Museum of Fashionable Artwork.
