Four years ago, the Delray Police Department issued a purple alert after my elderly grandmother, who had Alzheimer’s, threw her keys in my face while shopping. She was upset because she couldn’t get her way. I left her on the spot when she crossed the line of physically striking me. Shortly after, she called the police to say I was missing. Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s is chaotic. A bad moment got twisted into an inaccurate story.
I never thought I’d be villainized for caring for family. The department didn’t review the store footage before issuing the alert. They took the statement of an elderly person at face value. They should be embarrassed. Had they investigated records, they would have seen I had reached out to social services multiple times to help with her anger episodes.
I didn’t say anything for years because I really didn’t care. I know what transpired. I spent years taking care of family unpaid and unappreciated. Now I’m launching a new company and dropping another jewelry collection at Palm Beach Heirlooms. I wanted to set the record straight.
I hadn’t been acting for seven years when they slapped “Hollywood actress” title on me to frame the story. It’s insulting because I’ve been an entrepreneur my entire life. It was an inaccurate headline to make me look unstable.
This isn’t about rehashing pain. Unfortunately, people believe everything they read online, and that’s the reason why I chose to correct the record.
