Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) mentioned he believes President-elect Trump will transfer the House Command to Alabama in his first week in workplace.
Throughout an interview with Cell, Ala., radio FM Speak 106.5 that aired Monday, Rogers, who’s the Home Armed Providers Committee chair, mentioned he expects Trump will instantly reverse the choice made by President Biden to maintain the headquarters in Colorado.
“I’ve told y’all since Biden made that crooked decision, it wasn’t going to work,” he mentioned. “As you know, on the Armed Services Committee, I put a hold on any money being spent in Colorado Springs after President Biden came in and stole that mission away.”
In 2023, Biden overturned a choice from the Trump administration to relocate the momentary headquarters of House Command to Alabama, Rogers’ residence state. Biden opted to maintain the bottom in Colorado Springs, saying that might preserve stability and never influence readiness.
A Biden administration official mentioned in 2023 that shifting the headquarters to Alabama would pressure a transition course of that wouldn’t enable the bottom to be open till the mid-2030s.
Rogers insisted Monday that Huntsville, Ala., had gained “fair and square,” and that Colorado Springs “will not be the future capital” for House Command.
The Alabama lawmaker criticized Biden for his motion, saying he “took it away for political reasons” and Trump will “reverse that decision.”
“It’s going to be a big point now because President Trump’s already announced it, and I think you’ll see in the first week that he’s in office, he’ll sign an executive order reversing Biden’s directive and we will start construction next year in Huntsville,” Rogers mentioned.
