Gov. Greg Abbott introduced Wednesday over $500 million in grants for public security applications all through the state, together with help for victims of crime, border safety, legislation enforcement and anti-human trafficking efforts.

“These public safety grants will provide critical funding to strengthen Texas agencies and organizations as they work to secure the border, prevent human trafficking, ensure justice for victims, and protect Texans from dangerous criminals and violence.” Abbott said in a statement. “With this $500 million in grant funding, we will continue to build a safer Texas for all.”

The funds are disbursed via a whole lot of particular person grants by the Public Security Workplace throughout the governor’s workplace. Recipients embrace native police departments, nonprofit organizations targeted on deterring crime, district legal professional places of work and state companies, amongst others.

Over 300 grants totalling greater than $56.5 million will go towards anti-terrorism priorities. The grants will fund tools, coaching and planning by native, regional and state companies.

Different grant recipients will use the cash to finance physique cameras for cops, support fireplace departments close to the southern border with tools, fund psychological well being providers for at-risk youth and help safety for homes of worship.
