James Corden’s love for Dr. Anthony Fauci during a musical vaccine tribute didn’t go over as intended with many viewers of CBS’ “The Late Late Show.”
The host’s “Hairspray”-inspired song with Ariana Grande and Marissa Jaret Winokur, which has tallied nearly 1.5 million views, was framed as state-run propaganda by critics.
“No lockdowns anymore!” Mr. Corden exclaims. “We can finally walk out the door! … Shout out to our favorite M.D. — Anthony Fauci!”
Some responses on the YouTube video include:
- “Such a sinister, dystopian feel to this.”
- “How do people eat this up?”
- “This song sounds so creepy.”
- “These people really think we all just sit in our houses waiting for the government to tell us when it’s ok to go outside.”
- “Dystopia in full effect.”
- “This is giving me dystopian Hairspray vibes and I’m no there for it.”
- How can any sane person see this as anything other than propaganda
- “This would be such a good idea if it wasn’t such outright brainwashing, literally listen to the lyrics, y’all.”
“This is proof of how divorced these shows are from the rest of America,” added writer Bridget Phetasy on Twitter. “Imagine watching this in Texas or Tennessee or Florida or Utah where they’ve been open for a YEAR NOW.”
Supporters of the song focused on Ms. Grande as looking and sounding like a “Disney princess” and a “goddess.”
