NEW DELHI: A fireplace broke out within the Maha Kumbh Mela space in Prayagraj on Sunday, resulting in the burning of a number of tents. The fireplace broke out at 4:00 pm as a result of a cylinder blast, officers stated.
“Two cylinders exploded in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela, causing a massive fire in the camps. Fire fighters are trying to douse the blaze,” Akhara Police Station in-charge Bhaskar Mishra was quoted as saying by information company PTI.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath visited the location of the fireplace and spoke to officers and fireplace combating groups on the spot.
The fireplace erupted close to the Shastri bridge in zone 19 of the mela. “The fire broke out in sector 19 in the tent of Gita press. The fire spread to the nearby 10 tents. The police and administration team reached the spot,” Ravindra Kumar, DM, Prayagraj stated whereas speaking to information company ANI.
Hearth brigade groups had been instantly dispatched to the spot and the fireplace had been doused.
No casualties or accidents have been reported to this point. “There is no loss of life. Loss of property has been reported, it is being surveyed. There are no injuries also, as of now. Our priority as of now is the evacuation of the people and their safety. Around 15 fire tenders are present at the spot. CM Yogi also reviewed the situation. All the senior officials are present at the spot,” Maha Kumbh Mela deputy inspector normal of Police, Vaibhav Krishna informed information company ANI.
Earlier within the day, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath carried out an aerial survey of the Maha Kumbh space.
The 45-day Maha Kumbh 2025 began on Paush Purnima on January 13.
