Nathan Dickson Completes 24-Hour Game Development Charity Marathon in Support of Gamers Outreach Foundation

Independent game developer and content creator Nathan Dickson recently concluded a 24-hour charity livestream, developing a full video game from scratch to raise funds and awareness for the Gamers Outreach Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing the joy of gaming to children in hospitals.

The Gamers Outreach Foundation creates and delivers GO Karts — portable gaming setups equipped with consoles and screens — to hospitals nationwide. These gaming stations help young patients cope with long stays and difficult treatments by providing a sense of comfort, connection, and fun in otherwise challenging circumstances.

Nathan’s motivation for the event was simple yet powerful.

“I was already going to do a 24-hour development marathon,” he explained. “Then I thought — why not turn it into something that could help people? It just made sense.”

Streamed live across multiple social media platforms, the event offered viewers an inside look at the creative process behind game development — from brainstorming and coding to art design and live debugging. Between development segments, Nathan spoke about the mission of Gamers Outreach and encouraged his audience to support the cause through a Tiltify fundraising campaign, with all proceeds going directly to the charity.

Throughout the marathon, Nathan remained active and engaging, answering questions, discussing the challenges of indie development, and highlighting the emotional importance of gaming as both a creative outlet and a source of healing. The atmosphere was honest and community-driven — a mix of technical learning and heartfelt storytelling centered around a good cause.

While raising money was the central goal, Nathan’s larger mission was to show that creators of any size can make a difference.

“You don’t need a massive following to do something meaningful,” Nathan said. “Even one person spreading the word helps the cause. Awareness grows one share at a time.”

The Gamers Outreach Foundation currently supports over 400 hospitals across the United States and facilitates millions of gaming sessions for children each year. Their continued success is made possible by partnerships with developers, streamers, and content creators who view gaming as a powerful force for empathy and connection.

Encouraged by the success of his 24-hour stream, Nathan is already planning future charity-driven projects that merge creativity with purpose.

“Game development can sometimes feel like an isolated journey,” he reflected. “But this reminded me that creativity can have real-world impact. It’s not just about building a game — it’s about using what you love to bring joy to others.”
