Former “NYPD Blue” star Ricky Schroder apologized Sunday after he filmed himself confronting a Costco employee in California who wouldn’t let him enter the store without a mask.
In a video posted Sunday on his Instagram account, Mr. Schroder filmed himself demanding a membership refund after a Costco employee explained he couldn’t enter the store without a mask.
“There has been no change to our mask policy — not in the state of California or in the county of Los Angeles,” the employee said in the video. “Costco always goes above and beyond when following the law, and the mandate in California has not changed.”
“You’re going to listen to these people?” Mr. Schroder asked the employee. “They’ve destroyed our economy. They’re destroying our culture. They’re destroying our state. And you’re just going to listen to their rules?”
“I’m getting my refund from Costco,” Mr. Schroder then told his viewers. “I suggest everybody in California get their refund from Costco. Give up your membership to Costco until they remove this.”
Several hours later, the former “Silver Spoons” actor posted another video apologizing to the employee but not for his overall message.
“Jason, nothing personal,” Mr. Schroder said in the video. “I’m not upset with you or anybody in the position like you have, who works for a living. I understand that you were following their laws and rules. I was trying to make a point to the corporate overlords and I’m sorry that I had to use you to do it. And I’m sorry. If I hurt your feelings, I apologize. But I do think that independence from medical tyranny is more important than hurting people’s feelings.”
“I want us all to be free. I want this all to go back to the way it was. I don’t want this COVID reality they want,” he added.
Mr. Schroder, who got his start in Hollywood as a child actor on the 1980s sitcom “Silver Spoons,” came under fire in November after he said he donated “hundreds of thousands” of dollars for the bond of Kyle Rittenhouse’s legal defense following the fatal shooting of two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
