The Royal Canadian Navy says a sailor has died within the Bedford Basin after a ship capsized.
The Navy says two sailors have been working a rigid-hull inflatable boat within the Halifax-area bay when it overturned and capsized round 10 p.m. on Friday.
It says a rescue effort by the Joint Rescue and Coordination Centre Halifax dispatched two ships from the Canadian Coast Guard, and pulled each sailors from the water.

The Navy says the sailors have been met by paramedics and transferred to a Halifax hospital, however one of many sailors couldn’t be resuscitated.
The second sailor was handled and launched from the hospital, and the Army Police are investigating the incident.
Commodore Jacob French, commander of the Canadian Fleet Atlantic, says the navy is “profoundly saddened” by the loss, and the sailor’s dedication and repair to the nation might be remembered and honoured.
In a press release shared to social media, Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston referred to as the dying of the sailor “devastating news” and that his ideas are with the sailor’s household, buddies and colleagues.
