South Korea to Strengthen Airborne Surveillance and Reconnaissance Capabilities

L3Harris Applied sciences held an ‘L3 Industry Day’ on the Air Power
Resort in Seoul on Tuesday, to debate strengthening the South
Korean Air Power’s airborne surveillance and reconnaissance
capabilities.

Attendees included Jung Woo Park, Senior Vice
President and Head of Korean Air’s Aerospace Enterprise Division,
Jason W. Lambert, President of L3Harris Intelligence, Surveillance
and Reconnaissance (ISR), and representatives from 30 home and
worldwide protection corporations, together with Israel Aerospace
Industries (IAI), ELTA Methods, LIG Nex1, Yeonhab Precision, and
Han-ul Methods.

The Republic of Korea Air Power is seeking to
purchase further Airborne Early Warning & Management (AEW&C)
methods to reinforce its surveillance capabilities.

Such plane function airborne command facilities, offering
complete airspace monitoring and real-time management of
navy operations.

Presently, the Korean Air Power operates 4
Boeing E-737 ‘Peace Eye’ airborne management plane and a second part
of the challenge, with a price range of KRW 2.9 trillion (roughly
US$2.1 billion), is underway to
procure further plane by 2031.

L3Harris has proposed an answer for the second
part, integrating Bombardier’s International 6500 plane with IAI’s
state-of-the-art radar methods.

Korean Air, leveraging its 2022
cooperation settlement with L3Harris, will contribute to plane
modification, elements manufacturing, and operational coaching.

The
challenge is predicted to supply the home protection business with
alternatives for expertise switch, enhancing indigenous
capabilities and facilitating integration into world provide
chains.

“If L3Harris’ Global 6500 AEW&C solution is
selected, we will leverage domestic industrial cooperation to
achieve our goal of Korean Made – Korean Operated – Korean
Maintained,” stated Jason W. Lambert, President of L3Harris
Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). “We look
forward to collaborating with local industry on aircraft
modification, mission system production, logistics, and MRO
support to enhance the safety, security and overall well-being of
the Republic of Korea.”

Since 1978, Korean Air has maintained and
carried out numerous efficiency enhancements on roughly 6,000
Korean and U.S. navy plane.

Such operations are performed
on the airline’s Busan Tech Middle, Korean Air’s navy plane
upkeep base, which is the biggest such facility within the
Asia-Pacific area.

The tech heart’s confirmed experience and
superior amenities place it as a key asset for the proposed
AEW&C challenge, providing complete capabilities in plane
modification, methods integration, and long-term fleet
upkeep.

“This strategic collaboration will enable Korean
Air to acquire and develop cutting-edge technologies in the
modification, systems integration, and comprehensive maintenance
of advanced special mission aircraft,” stated Jung Woo Park, Head of
Korean Air’s Aerospace Enterprise Division. “As a frontrunner in
Korea’s aviation sector, we are dedicated to cultivating strategic
alliances within the defense industry and bolstering the entire
aerospace aftermarket value chain.”
