JD Vance says Iran is ‘clearly not superb at struggle’ and may search peace whereas declaring the U.S. has ‘no curiosity’ in floor troops

The Trump administration continued to sign its want for negotiations with Tehran after bombing Iran’s key nuclear amenities.

In an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press with Kristen Welker on Sunday, Vice President JD Vance mentioned Iran’s nuclear weapons program is “destroyed,” referred to as its missile program a failure, and identified most of its proxy allies have been crippled.

“The Iranians are clearly not very good at war,” he added. “Perhaps they should follow President Trump’s lead and give peace a chance. If they’re serious about it, I guarantee you the president of the United States is too.”

Whereas the U.S. dropped a number of “bunker buster” bombs on the closely fortified enrichment web site at Fordow, it’s not clear but how a lot injury it sustained underground and if it was certainly destroyed. Vance later added that he’s assured the U.S. “substantially delayed” Iran’s growth of a nuclear weapon.

On Saturday night time, Trump warned Iran that extra U.S. assaults would comply with if Iran didn’t pursue peace. Vance urged on Sunday that the nation had reached out to administration officers by means of backchannels.

The vice chairman additionally accused Iran of stonewalling throughout earlier rounds of negotiations over the nuclear program, prompting the U.S. to launch its airstrikes.

However Iran’s international minister signaled it was the U.S. and its allies that closed the door on diplomacy.

“Last week, we were in negotiations with the US when Israel decided to blow up that diplomacy. This week, we held talks with the E3/EU when the US decided to blow up that diplomacy. What conclusion would you draw?” Seyed Abbas Araghchi posted on X. “To Britain and the EU High Rep, it is Iran which must ‘return’ to the table. But how can Iran return to something it never left, let alone blew up?”

Vance additionally echoed different administration officers in saying the U.S. doesn’t search regime change, whereas clarifying that the U.S. isn’t at struggle with Iran however as a substitute is at struggle with its nuclear program.

When requested if he might rule out American floor troops ultimately being deployed, Vance replied that the U.S. has little interest in a protracted battle.

“We have no interest in boots on the ground,” he added. “The president has actually been one of the fiercest critics of 25 years of failed foreign policy in the Middle East, which is why he did what he did: a very precise, a very surgical strike tailored to an American national interest. And that national interest is Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”

That comes as a few of Trump’s staunchest supporters have categorical deep considerations in regards to the U.S. combating one other struggle within the Center East.

Vance, who served in Iraq throughout his time within the Marine Corps, acknowledged these considerations and mentioned he can empathize with Individuals who really feel that approach.

“But the difference is that back then we had dumb presidents, and now we have a president who actually knows how to accomplish America’s national security objectives,” he defined. “So this is not going to be some long, drawn-out thing. We’ve got in. We’ve done the job of setting their nuclear program back. We’re going to now work to permanently dismantle that nuclear program over the coming years. And that is what the president has set out to do.”
