WVU Medication officers gathered final week (April 10) to chop the ribbon on the brand new WVU Medication Heart for Nursing Schooling, which is able to welcome its first cohort of scholars on Aug. 25.


 

“This is monumental day for WVU Medicine. We’ve waited a long time to see the Center for Nursing Education transition from a dream into a reality, and that day is finally here. In about four-and-a-half months, our first students will arrive on campus, and before you know it, they’ll be our first graduates,” Albert L. “Just as this program will go a long way toward helping us combat the national nursing shortage, we hope to replicate this program for other healthcare professions and deepen our partnership with the University to ensure a steady workforce with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience for years to come.”


 


Situated within the WVU Innovation Company on Chestnut Ridge Street in Morgantown, the Heart for Nursing Schooling is a state-of-the-art, hospital-based nursing college and registered nursing diploma program. College students enrolled within the 21-month program might be offered a full tuition waiver, free books, and in depth assist companies in change for a three-year bedside employment dedication at a WVU Medication hospital.


 


This system options one-on-one educational assist companies and intensive scientific experiences to arrange college students for nursing program success and a straightforward transition into nursing apply.


 


The 37,000-square-foot facility consists of:


  • Studying areas: 5 school rooms, a digital actuality lab, a simulation middle, and two abilities labs

“Everything about the Center for Nursing Education – from the structure of the curriculum and support services to the design of the facility itself – was created with the student in mind. We wanted to eliminate many of the barriers students encounter on their pursuit of a nursing degree and reduce some of the stress that comes with being a full-time student while juggling other responsibilities,” Melanie Heuston, D.N.P., R.N., N.E.A.-B.C., chief nursing govt for the WVU Well being System, stated. 


 


“We want our students to be able to fully immerse themselves in their education, and we hope they find all they need and more at the Center for Nursing Education.”


 


The CNE acquired greater than 650 functions for the preliminary 24-student cohort. The inaugural class consists of:


  • 16 West Virginia residents, seven Pennsylvania residents, and one California resident

  • An age vary of 17-40 with a median age of 26 years previous

  • 9 first-generation school college students

  • 3.8 common highschool grade level common

  • 13 college students who’ve already accomplished some stage of upper training

  • 3.49 common school grade level common

  • 3.85 common grasp’s-level grade level common

  • 15 college students who’ve healthcare expertise


Functions for the Fall 2026 cohort will open in August.

The West Virginia Board of Registered Nurses accepted the CNE new program software and permitted it with provisional approval in March 2024. The Board will go to the power on Might 2, and the CNE’s preliminary accreditation go to from the Accreditation Fee for Schooling in Nursing might be Sept. 2-4.
